*CPAC 2011 Highlights*

February 11, 2011 - Potential 2012 Presidential candidate, Herman Cain addresses CPAC 2011

This year’s CPAC event in Washington, D.C. was once again a showcase of the best of the Conservative political scene.  The conference is a deliberate mix of elected officials, policy wonks, dedicated activists, media personalities, and beloved Conservative superstars.  Now that it has ended, there are a couple of presentations worth sharing far and wide…

The first one, posted above, was one of the most engaging speeches of the weekend - by Herman Cain.  This was certainly one of the highlights of the conference and is worth watching…and re-watching.  He has an engaging presence and is a strong voice for Conservatism.  President Obama may be a so-called orator but Mr. Cain is a communicator.

Enjoy!

on arizona: sarah palin responds

Over the past few days following the mass shooting in Arizona, many in the mainstream media have seen fit to declare open season on Governor Sarah Palin.

Some blamed Palin and her “rhetoric” for the actions of the lone killer.  Others insisted that her statement of condolences in the hours after the shooting were insufficient and illustrated a lack of leadership on her part.

Well, today, Governor Palin once again proved to be a woman of grace and grounding.  She released a video with her thoughts on the violence in Arizona and the despicable (my word) statements of blame that have flooded the airwaves and newspapers in the days since.

Certainly, those in the media who are accustomed to political figures of old - the kind who don’t fight back against the clique of those who buy ink by the barrel full - were assuming the Sarah Palin would be similarly meek.  They were wrong.

Governor Palin has now weighed in - in her own words and in her own time.  And she did so with the unapologetic language that we have come to expect and, apparently, shocks many in the media:

Vigorous and spirited public debates during elections are among our most cherished traditions.  And after the election, we shake hands and get back to work, and often both sides find common ground back in D.C. and elsewhere. If you don’t like a person’s vision for the country, you’re free to debate that vision. If you don’t like their ideas, you’re free to propose better ideas. But, especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible.

Contrary to most of the drivel that has passed for journalistic thought in recent days, we need more of what Sarah Palin offers.  Not less.  Her unwavering strength in the face of incivility, and her willingness to stand up for her beliefs are, unfortunately, becoming less and less common among leadership in Washington and our local communities.

Open, spirited, honest debate are at the root of our democracy.  Any attempt to silence opposing views - through legislation or innuendo - strikes at the core of who we are as a nation.

sarah palin’s alaska, prom hair, and conspiracy theories

It’s Thursday night - you know what that means!!

You got it!  Nothing really.

It’s just that I was perusing the online hub of Sarah Palin’s Alaska and happened across the clip below from the next show - in just 3 days! - starring Sarah, Todd, and Bristol Palin.

The three are out skeet shooting for the afternoon.  Or, perhaps more accurately, Sarah is shooting the “skeet” (I know that’s wrong, deal with it) while Bristol misses the “skeet” and Todd watches the action from the sidelines.  It’s a funny scene that reminds me of my day of shooting out in the Alaskan woods this summer.

I hit more trees than target - like Bristol (though, I managed to hit one bullseye!).  Nonetheless, I’d love to try skeet shooting.  It looks like a good challenge.  Perhaps next summer…

Anyway, have a look.  I’ve watched the clip a few times, mostly because of the money quote from Bristol to Sarah, after the latter offers unsolicited advice to her daughter:

“Moooommm…OK! Take your prom hair back home!”

Kids say the darnedest things, don’t they?  Enjoy the preview and see you Sunday night!

PS: Don’t forget to vote for Bristol Palin on Monday night’s final showdown on Dancing With the Stars!

Vote online, call 1-800-868-3407, or text “Vote” to 3407 (AT&T customers only).  And, remember, you don’t have to be a conspiratorial Tea Partier to do your part!

*UPDATED:  The O’Donnell campaign recently posted to Twitter that the above ad will indeed air three times tonight - at 6pm, 8:30pm, and 9pm Eastern.  The station has made amends for their error. Kudos to them!

Christine O’Donnell’s first 30-Minute Ad “We the People of the First State”

If you follow Twitter, you may know that this ad was supposed to air twice today and once tomorrow - Election Day.  Though the O’Donnell campaign paid for ad time, the station asserts they “forgot” to air the ads.

It’s hard to imagine that this is true, but, regardless…

This type of “mishap” one day before the election is unacceptable!  Whether you agree with her views or not, Ms. O’Donnell has every right to have her voice heard.

Post and share this ad wherever you can!
